The Gift of Life is an informational booklet distributed by the New York State Department of Health, copyrighted in 1951. I began altering this booklet in 2023, which is still a work in progress. The altered book is a mixed media piece; I have been utilizing collage, painting and drawing. A visual theme throughout this work is an obsession of mine from the shared time period, gelatine mold meals. I describe the booklet in its current state as almost a visual journal of my feelings invoked by the images from the original state. Seperate works of art have been inspired from the process of altering this book. These works of art have ranged from collage work to oil paintings.
